I call this page Exercise for your Wellbeing because exercise acts as the foundation to wellbeing. Wellbeing is defined as "The state of being happy, healthy and successful" all rolled in to one. What a great feeling to aspire to as well as a goal! Exercise can be in so many different forms so you need not get bored or depressed from the redundancy of the same exercise routine. Start exercising to reach your personal wellbeing and your outlook on exercise will turn from I have to do this again??? to I want to do this again!!!!
Change up your exercises to include what makes you feel good and exercises that do not cause you physical pain or are a strict no-no from your doctor. Change not only prevents it from getting boring but it also uses more muscle groups for a more effective overall workout. I really do not like the standard gym in general. They usually smell of sweat, include men that love to show off, grunt and act like they are all that just doesn't do it for me! Use the outdoors if weather permits and ask friends to join in with you. Any form, at anytime can keep you on track. There are also Judo/Karate studios, Zumba Studios, tennis courts and bike groups that are smaller and more personal. Church's, community centers and schools are other resources to look into for fitness classes with many of them being inside and outside.
Start off with 2 to 3 times a week, 30 to 40 minutes each time. Do what you like to do and keep up the consistency each week. Remember to keep up your weight bearing exercises to reduce the rate of bone loss. Hip fractures go up by 50% in people over 50 if they sit more than 9 hours a day compared to people who sit 6 hours or less.
