Honey Bee Recipes

The Benefits of Honey

I always loved honey for its natural sweetness in teas and drizzled on chruśiki during our traditional holiday dinners.  I had recently found out that honey not only tastes good but is great on the outside of your body as well.  Here are some great tips on using honey in your beauty routines with an added bonus of not breaking the bank!  Plus all skin types can benefit.  Honey has:

·      Antibacterial Qualities
Great for acne prone skin and unclogging pores.   It’s antimicrobial so it has clarifying properties

·      Moisturizing Properties
Honey keeps dry skin well-soothed, glowing and freshly hydrated.

Great Hairstyles for Women over 50

Over 50 does not mean your hair grows gray and lifeless.  There are so many timeless styles and great products out there that over 50 can now mean hairstyles are fun, elegant and sassy all in one even with gray hair!  Growing old doesn’t makes you immune to haircuts or styling up your hair. I found this website sporting the latest short hair trends and the one’s best suited for women over 50.  You do see Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep with their unique styles but also younger women with short haircuts as well.  What is this saying?  Short haircuts are normally timeless!  You can wear them at any age and they still look fantastic and fresh.

E-Cigs and "Healthier" Alternatives

To Vaporize or Not to Vaporize....that is the question!

As you all know, I am always searching for healthier alternatives.  I am by no means encouraging smoking of any sort but I am here to encourage healthy alternatives.  E-cigarettes (with new terms such as "Vaporizer") have grown quite popular in the past couple of years.  I have done some research finding little in the way of actual facts because this product is still in its infancy.  However, because regular cigarette smoking is a slow suicide (in my own terms), I believe that turning the corner and replacing this bad habit with a healthier habit is a step in the right direction.  I have also found that some of the flavored liquids can know be purchased organically!  This is great news and if you are on the fence on whether to try out the e-cigarettes, this is the best place to purchase the flavored liquids.  Mind you, you can still get the nicotine liquids but those are not processed organically.    Test an organically processed e-cigarette liquid

I found Money! And it was Sitting in a Drawer Pretending to be an I-Phone!

Shop Amazon - Trade In Your iPhone I didn't know there was any value in our old phones.  I have had this drawer full of phones for the longest time and have a guilty feeling about it because I was sure they could be used somehow.  I ran across this link and actually made $52 from trading in a bunch of my phones!  The money is equal to an Amazon Gift Card.  That's fine with me because I can find just about everything on Amazon.  There's other electronics you can cash in as well!

Happy Trade In's!

Will I have Tight Hips Forever?

In the past 10 years, I have noticed that when I sit cross legged in (Indian Style) I basically "can't"!  I look around me in any standard fitness class and if we do go to the floor for stretching, everyone, at any age, can sit Indian Style!   My knees are pointing in the air and it hurts my back to sit up straight.  What is wrong with me??  I felt like a "freakazoid" as my grandchildren put it!  I discussed this a Physical Therapist and also research on line a to the causes and corrections of this aching.

Come to find out, I am not alone (OK, the "freakazoid" feeling is diminishing) and there are some good stetching exercises out there as well as adjustments you can make to allow you to still sit this way until you get your hips back to normal (whatever that might be!).  Why, I ask, did this happen?
The answers was mainly due to poor stretching before and after physical exercise (come on I had to pick up my kids and time was very limited), poor alignment during the exercise itself and little genetics.

This is my journey on working with the tips, tricks and techniques that I will put in place and see what the results are after 30 days.  I found free yoga videos on line here Grokker Yoga for Beginners.
No credit card required so it is truly a helpful website geared to educating.  I liked this video because it shows you the basics with plenty of time to work on the pose and easy to follow.  (I do not appreciate the videos that are so fast and the instructor is on to the next move and you still haven't maneuvered into the pose yet!),

Another Lovely Menopause Symptom

I never lavished the idea of going to the dentist but I could accept it and get there knowing it was an important part of your health and keeping your pearly whites in tack.  I have had a number of oral heath issues such as root canals and my wisdom teeth pulled but always took care of my teeth by flossing, using tarter control rinses and brushing regularly.  If I followed this regime, I came out of the dentists office with good results and no changes required.....until recently.

To my surprise, my visit with the dentist 3 months ago revealed deep pockets, bleeding gums and a level of tarter that seemed to be more prevalent than in my past visits.    I was, of course, approached by my dentist and was asked "what happened?  "What has changed?"   I remarked truthfully that I had no idea which was met with a look of "your lying"  behind those clean, white, sparkling smiles of the office staff.  I have been flossing (about 4 times a week), rinsing, brushing 3 times a day as usual so a big change in my dental health meant something had changed dramatically.  I was scheduled again in 3 months.

Do you Zumba?

Zumba has taken the world by storm and I feel confident that it is here to stay.  Starting in the 90's by Alberto Perez, Zumba actually took off by accident.  Alberto (Beto) was a traditional aerobic instructor and forgot his music for his class.  He went back his car digging for music and came across salsa, latin type of music and taught his aerobics class with based on dance routines with a latin flair.  The love for his classes grew and he moved to Miami in 1999 to pursue his dream of teaching his dance and fitness routines.  Combined with two other individuals for financial and technical assistance, Zumba was born.

I have to Pee Again????? Dealing with an Over Active Bladder (OAB)

Has anyone else dealt with this annoying situation?  Not sure if you have it?  You will definitely know if you do if you:

Five Great Uses for Vinegar

I wish I knew all the great uses for vinegar years ago! Vinegar is effective, inexpensive and is non-toxic rolled up in one. I would have certainly saved a boat load of cash and kept my home nearly free of harsh chemicals. Now with information immediately at our finger tips, there is no reason to go through life unaware of healthy alternatives that save money as well!

Smelly Workout Clothes

Do you wear the those moisture-wicking tank tops and sports bras? They work great during a sweaty workout (I can attest to that) but when you go to launder the items, do they come out smelling as clean as they should? I have tried to combat this by running them twice through the washer, more fabric softener and even soaking them. Nothing really worked and I was going through laundry detergent like mad.

Remedy - Run 1 cycle as you normally would in your standard detergent. Run another full cycle adding 1 cup of vinegar only (For a full load). Your clothes will come out smelling cleaner then ever without the use of fabric softener!

Kiwi – The New Source of Vitamin C

I have always loved fruit and especially oranges. I was raised that the best source of vitamin C is in an orange. Little did we know, Kiwi ranks right up there with oranges. Both of them offer close to the recommended daily requirements in one piece!

The kiwifruit is a little fruit holding great surprise...........

Another Sleepliness Night – No More!

I am sure many of you have had sleepless nights because of problems, children, stressful situations physical pain or just because you simply can’t! I have had many of those nights and have finally learned natural ways to help me sleep and not ingest harmful ingredients to get me to the rested place.
Exercise, Herbal Teas and Herbal Supplements – Homemade Recipes (of sorts)

Of course, the first way to get your body to relax and relieve tension is exercise. (Not surprised I said that, right???) Come home and do some sort of exercise that gets the blood flowing and releases the tension. A 30 minute brisk walk, moving the arms forward and back (feeling like you are ready to punch the next object that comes along) will give you a nice feeling of relief and calm afterwards. Make sure you wear proper walking shoes so you don’t trip while your mind is wandering or moving at full speed! Yes, I have fallen victim to this and still have the scars from 5 years ago. However, it is a great way to relax and encourage restfulness.

We all Want to Grow Old Gracefully....But How?

There are many proven facts out there that help a person to grow old gracefully. (Whatever “gracefully” real means!).  Of course exercise and eating right will help to keep you fit, healthy and energized but you also need to workout your brain to keep you mind active to fight off memory loss illnesses.  Its as easy as playing a board game, recall exercises or even jotting down  your day in a diary.  You can also encourage better memory taking a supplement such as Ginkgo.

Another way to improve your “brain health” can be done with changing up your exercise technique.  This will help with the weaker side of your brain that we all have.  Start your exercises or repetitions using the opposite foot, hand, arm, etc. than what you would normally use to start.  For instance, when I normally do walking lunges, I start with my right foot.  Change it up and start with the left foot.  You really have to put some mental effort into using the opposite limb!
