E-Cigs and "Healthier" Alternatives

To Vaporize or Not to Vaporize....that is the question!

As you all know, I am always searching for healthier alternatives.  I am by no means encouraging smoking of any sort but I am here to encourage healthy alternatives.  E-cigarettes (with new terms such as "Vaporizer") have grown quite popular in the past couple of years.  I have done some research finding little in the way of actual facts because this product is still in its infancy.  However, because regular cigarette smoking is a slow suicide (in my own terms), I believe that turning the corner and replacing this bad habit with a healthier habit is a step in the right direction.  I have also found that some of the flavored liquids can know be purchased organically!  This is great news and if you are on the fence on whether to try out the e-cigarettes, this is the best place to purchase the flavored liquids.  Mind you, you can still get the nicotine liquids but those are not processed organically.    Test an organically processed e-cigarette liquid

We all know that Electronic Cigarettes (Also called E-Cigarettes or E-Cig) are a big rage these days and have seemed to maintain popularity with more and more providers popping up with new features, improved performance and less expensive options.  However, not everyone realizes what is in an e-cigarette and what really takes place when you “smoke” an e-cigarette.  Being in a health conscious society as well as working in the industry, pressured me to find out what goes when using an e-cigarette.

First and foremost, because of this is a relatively new product in the industry, research on the effects of e-cigarettes is limited.  However, the actual contents of an e-cigarette are as follows:

·         Battery Powered Devices (some now have electronic adapters to avoid the use of battery’s)

·         Liquid Nicotine or Nicotine Free Liquids

·         Propylene Glycol (if nicotine is used in liquid for emulsification)

(This is a relatively older e-cigarette and has now been replaced by personal vaporizers where you adjust voltage and have extended battery life.)

Many people question the safety of Propylene Glycol.  My research found that:

·         It has been used safely for more than 50 years and comes in many grades.

·         Safety is dependent on the level of Propylene Glycol.  High levels are found in engine coolants, antifreeze, paints, enamels and even varnish.  Low levels are found in foods.

·         The level of Propylene Glycol in an e-cigarette is very low and the FDA recognizes it as a safe additive.

·         Studies have proven that propylene glycol has a very low degree of toxicity

·         In the body, propylene glycol is rapidly converted into lactic acid, in a similar manner to what happens with sugar (energy) in the muscles during sports

As with anything, too much of a good thing is too much!  You can make the most natural product toxic or create side effects if it is ingested in extreme amounts.  The real killer?   The Nicotine included (as an option) in the E-cigarettes.    The great thing about the e-cigarette is that there are more and more nicotine free liquid options popping up in the market every day.

If you are reading this article,  you have probably tried every other way to quitting smoking.  Why not try this alternative?  It can be done at your own pace (no cold turkey!) and with a lot of variations in flavor.  Plus, you dont have to hide in a 2 x 4 space, located in the getto to smoke!
