Five Great Uses for Vinegar

I wish I knew all the great uses for vinegar years ago! Vinegar is effective, inexpensive and is non-toxic rolled up in one. I would have certainly saved a boat load of cash and kept my home nearly free of harsh chemicals. Now with information immediately at our finger tips, there is no reason to go through life unaware of healthy alternatives that save money as well!

Smelly Workout Clothes

Do you wear the those moisture-wicking tank tops and sports bras? They work great during a sweaty workout (I can attest to that) but when you go to launder the items, do they come out smelling as clean as they should? I have tried to combat this by running them twice through the washer, more fabric softener and even soaking them. Nothing really worked and I was going through laundry detergent like mad.

Remedy - Run 1 cycle as you normally would in your standard detergent. Run another full cycle adding 1 cup of vinegar only (For a full load). Your clothes will come out smelling cleaner then ever without the use of fabric softener!

Limp Lettuce

Have limp lettuce within a couple of days of buying it? (Its a regular occurrence in hot climates..ugh!) You can revive your lettuce and make it look fresh again.

Remedy - Soak the leaves in water with a splash of vinegar. Leave it in the bowl for 10 minutes. Dry well so the salad dressing can stick. Voila! Fresh like first bought it.

Got Ants?

Does anyone want ants anywhere especially in their kitchen? No creepy crawlers on your counter with this fix.

Remedy - White vinegar can work just as good as commercial ant spray. Spray vinegar directly into cracks, around baseboards, on counter tops or anywhere ants tend to crawl.

Clogged Drain

We all have had clogged drains and been through the misery of plunging along with the harsh drain cleaners. Who knew it didn't have to be this way?

Remedy - Pour a cup of baking soda down the drain chasing it with a cup of white vinegar and let the two work their magic for five minutes. After the 5 minutes, flush the drain clear with eight cups of near-boiling water.

Weeds

Those weeds may die with commercial weed killer but they will always return and the cycle just starts all over again. Why pay hefty money for chemical weed killers time and time again?

Remedy - Spray full-strength (i.e., non-diluted) vinegar on the weeds when they are relatively small. The acidity will kill young, pesty plants. If the weeds are larger and seem to be taking over, you will have to pull them out at the root. After you pull the weed out of the ground, spray the vinegar into the root hole to prevent new growth.

Hope you get as much benefit as I have from this simple liquid! (Perhaps a little fatter wallet as well!)
