In the past 10 years, I have noticed that when I sit cross legged in (Indian Style) I basically "can't"! I look around me in any standard fitness class and if we do go to the floor for stretching, everyone, at any age, can sit Indian Style! My knees are pointing in the air and it hurts my back to sit up straight. What is wrong with me?? I felt like a "freakazoid" as my grandchildren put it! I discussed this a Physical Therapist and also research on line a to the causes and corrections of this aching.
Come to find out, I am not alone (OK, the "freakazoid" feeling is diminishing) and there are some good stetching exercises out there as well as adjustments you can make to allow you to still sit this way until you get your hips back to normal (whatever that might be!). Why, I ask, did this happen?
The answers was mainly due to poor stretching before and after physical exercise (come on I had to pick up my kids and time was very limited), poor alignment during the exercise itself and little genetics.
This is my journey on working with the tips, tricks and techniques that I will put in place and see what the results are after 30 days. I found free yoga videos on line here Grokker Yoga for Beginners.
No credit card required so it is truly a helpful website geared to educating. I liked this video because it shows you the basics with plenty of time to work on the pose and easy to follow. (I do not appreciate the videos that are so fast and the instructor is on to the next move and you still haven't maneuvered into the pose yet!),
